LOBO’S CANYON IN CIRAT CASTELLÓN

The Barranco del Lobo is a terrestrial canyon located in Cirat, in Mijares’ region (Castellón). Just 1h 30 minutes from Valencia city and 1h 20 minutes from Castellón. The history of its name goes back to the last century, when due to the lack of rains, the wolves, lacking food, came down from the mountains to Cirat killing their cattle. The villagers, took up arms and made heavy raids to kill the wolves, who found refuge in this gorge, where they were never found. Although legend says that they had to turn back without finding them, before leaving the gorge, they did hear their howls echoing off the rocky walls, which is why, since then, both the ravine, and the fountain there, took this name.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM THIS GORGE?

Limestone rock ravine, generally dry, composed of 8 rappels from 4 to 16 meters high, with handrails, 15 minutes of access to the head and about 20 minutes of exit. The duration is about 3:30h, and can be done throughout the year but it is not advisable to do it in summer if it is not at dawn to avoid heat stroke.

WHO IS IT RECOMMENDED FOR?

From 12 years old, without fear of heights and feeling like starting or practicing rappeling techcnique. It is a ravine almost for everyone with good health.

Be ready to feel like a goat for one day, moving in its natural environment, crossing the ravine with rapel’s help and fixed ropes, saving obstacles and testing our coordination, balance and abilities.
